New Exhibition Displays Alum’s “Paintings Made of Sounds”

The May issue of Smithsonian magazine highlights SAIC alumna Jennie C. Jones (BFA 1991) and her upcoming solo show Directions at Washington D.C.’s Hirshhorn museum.  The exhibition presents the artist’s sound collages along with painted, silk-screened and sculpted objects, resulting in a dynamic synergy of sound and sight. “One of the things I really like about Jennie’s work is that all of her objects function,” says Hirshhorn associate curator Evelyn Hankins. “When they’re in a gallery with no sound they are these beautiful autonomous objects. But then you put sound in the gallery and they become activated.” Directions: Jennie C. Jones runs May 16 through October 27, 2013.
