Medill Reports Covers Scientific Exhibition Created by SAIC Students

On October 12 Medill Reports highlighted cosmologist John Carlstrom’s presentation of the South Pole telescope at SAIC.  Part of Chicago Ideas Week 2012, Carlstrom’s lecture discussed the telescope’s use in studies of the early universe. Stephanie Sunata states Calstrom “liked the idea of hosting the talk at an art school because both science and art require creativity.” Last fall, SAIC students led by professor Bo Rodda designed an exhibit inspired by the telescope project that traveled to USA Science and Engineering Festival in Washington, D.C.  “Both artists and scientists are curious about the world,” Calstrom says of the collaboration. “Each discipline requires a person to make abstract ideas conceivable to the public.”
