Mayor Emanuel Handpicks Alumna’s Work

On July 29 Forest & Bluff magazine profiled alumna and landscape painter Jill Jeannides (BFA 2000), creator of two 16-foot murals personally chosen by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to hang in his Chicago office. Jeannides completed both works, which depict north and south views from Chicago’s grant park, while finishing her undergraduate degree. The murals originally found a happy home at a neighboring Corner Bakery through Creativity in the Workplace, an SAIC initiative that places student work in local businesses, where they remained for 12 years. The mayor’s office acquired both works last year, and they now reside in the press conference room and staff hallway. “It was better than anything I could have dreamed for my work,” Jeannides says. “It was one of the highest honors I’ve experienced in my life.”
