Growing the Overlap Between Design and Social Impact

Designers and social innovators from across the city joined SAIC faculty members George Aye (AIADO) and Sara Cantor Aye (AIADO) on July 29 to celebrate the second anniversary of their socially focused design firm, Greater Good Studio, and the grand opening of the communal co-working space The Logan Share. The event sought to “grow the overlap” between the worlds of design and social impact, uniting professionals from both fields to foster creative solutions to real-life problems. During the event guests were asked to contribute their ideas to wall of post-its labeled “The change I want to see is…” with the hashtag, #ImproveMyChicago. In October, the studio received TED’s $10,000 City 2.0 grant to support Designing Chicago: New Tools for Public Transit, a project that aims to improve Chicago mass transit through public participation.
