FNews Wins Top Honor at Illinois College Press Association Convention

On February 22 FNewsmagazine received the first place award for General Excellence at the 31st Illinois College Press Association Convention. “The editors of FNewsmagazine deliver a professional, high-quality publication that reflects the energy and creativity of SAIC,” said the judges. “Though it doesn't fit the format of a traditional student newspaper, its broad range, engaging presentation and high standards reflect well on its staff and the school.” In addition, the F staff received a total of seven individual awards. Winners include Nadine Mostafa, awarded first place in the Feature Story category for “Silence Is Surrender,”; Ali Berry, who received first place in Feature Design for “1 Moment of Extended Brokenness;” Diana Buendia (MA 2013), awarded second place in the category of Critical Review: Film for Just Say No; Tessa Elbettar (BA 2017), who placed third in Spot News Photo; and Chris Johnson, who received third place in the Feature Photo category and earned an honorable mention for General News Photo. In November 2013, F received the Pacemaker Award from the Associated Collegiate Press—one of the most prestigious awards in college publishing, often referred to as “the Pulitzer of college journalism.”
