The July 21 edition of the Chicago Tribune Sunday magazine announced a major step forward for Creatures of the Wind (COTW) designers Shane Gabier (Fashion, 1995–98) and Christopher Peters (BFA 2010). Fashion contributor Wendy Donahue reports Matthew Walker, head of the investment firm The Dock Group and former president of The Row, will assume the role of president and chief executive officer for Creatures of the Wind as part of a major capital investment and expansion for the label. She describes the move as a process that will afford the designers equal creative control and less production stress. Dock intends to expand distribution to influential specialty stores, though “not in a forced way,” Gabier says. The SAIC faculty member also notes that the expansion has allowed COTW to hire SAIC alumni Tamara Malas (BFA 2012) and Michael Walls (BFA 2012). Making her column a complete sweep for SAIC alums, Donahue finishes her reporting with news on recent alumnus Justin Leblanc (MDes 2012), an assistant professor at the North Carolina State University College of Design who is currently featured on season 12 of Bravo TV’s hit program Project Runway
