Faculty Member Drafts New Plans for Milwaukee Lakefront

On June 22 the Milwaukee Sentinel featured architectural plans by Linda Keane (AIADO), capturing her proposed designs for the Milwaukee Lakefront; specifically, space usage in relation to the 44-story Couture Hotel, which is currently planned to sit on a filled lakebed. The Wisconsin constitution's public trust doctrine largely bars private development on filled lakebeds. Keane’s designs, though opposed by other developers, offer the means to stop privatized developers and those groups invested in public land from fighting one another. It also refocuses the area’s development into parks and open spaces. "Our lakefront is incredibly unique and needs to have development that encourages environmental exploration and connections in zones to the lake," Keane says.
