Faculty Member and Alumnus Awarded Major Arts Fellowship

Alumnus Scott Carter (MFA 2011) and faculty member Jason Lazarus (Photography) have each received a $25,000 award from The Efroymson Contemporary Arts Fellowship, made possible by the Indianapolis-based Efroymson Family Fund. They are among just five artists selected this year from a pool of more than 265 applicants from Illinois and Wisconsin. Unique in both its size and unrestricted nature, the fellowship allows artists working in new media, installation, and sculpture to spend grant money any way they choose. Carter intends to use a majority of the fellowship to support his first international solo exhibition with Beers.Lambert Contemporary Art in London in spring of 2014. Lazarus, whose critically acclaimed BMO Harris Bank Chicago Works exhibition at the MCA Chicago closed June 18, will use part of the award to invest in a new studio space and support a summer residency.
