F Newsmagazine Explores International Enrollment

The November issue of F Newsmagazine is now available. Among its many items of original reporting is “Prestige Recruits,” an article by Alex Wolff (BA 2014) that examines international student enrollment among SAIC’s incoming class of first-year and transfer students. The class, overall, is the largest and most selective in SAIC’s history. Also, for the first year ever, Chinese students now make up SAIC’s largest international demographic. Discussing the reasons why students are attracted to SAIC, Chen Chen (MFA 2014), a graduate student in SAIC’s Department of Visual Communication Design, argues that U.S. art schools offer a more diverse curriculum. Chinese schools “focus on professional training for artists,” not “how to be more creative or how to think deeply,” explains Chen. SAIC faculty members “give you new ideas” and “raise your thinking to a higher theoretical level.”
