F News Sweeps the Student Society for News Design Contest
For the second year in a row, SAIC’s F Newsmagazine won the award for Best Overall Design at the annual Student Society for News Design contest, hosted by the Missouri School of Journalism and co-sponsored by the Society for News Design. The F staff also took home the prize for best Redesign of a Magazine or Newspaper and received first place for Overall Design of a Special Section. SAIC student Frederick Eschrich (MFA 2014) was named Designer of the Year, and won first place in Multipage News Design along with an honorable mention in Illustration. Eschrich’s portfolio displays “consistent excellence with typography, grid, color, and resolution of the concept,” said the panel of judges, comprised of prominent design professionals. “There are a lot of original thoughts. It all fits together—everything looks like it’s from the same paper and has the same style. His originality comes through.” Additional individual winners include Christopher Givens (BFA 2014) and Benjamin Macri (BFA 2014), who received first place for Cover of a Special Section. Givens also received second place in the Cover of a Special Section category. Berke Yazicioglu (BFA 2015) received third place in the Alternative Story Format category.
