Alum and faculty member Daniel Borzutzky's (MFA 2000) collection of poetry, The Performance of Becoming Human won the National Book Award for poetry. The New York Times mentions Borzutzky's work in an article on the winners of this prestigious award.

3Arts, a Chicago-based nonprofit advocating for women artists, artists of color, and artists with disabilities, has honored two members of the SAIC community with unrestricted grants to pursue their work. Associate Professor in the Department of Film, Video, New Media, and Animation Tirtza Even and alum Juan-Carlos Perez (BFA 2002) will each receive an award for $25,000. For the past 10 years, 10 artists from the six-county Chicago metropolitan area working in the performing, teaching, and visual arts have received awards from the organization.

SAIC alum Dread Scott (BFA 1989), best known for his provocative works like What Is the Proper Way to Display a US Flag?, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a reenactment of the 1811 Louisiana slave rebellion.
