Chicago Sun-Times Recounts Story Behind LeRoy Neiman’s Last Paintings
September 28, 2012—Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times highlighted legendary alumnus LeRoy Neiman (1947–50, honorary doctorate 2006) and his interminable interest in athletics on September 24. Jensen’s “Hot Corner” column celebrates the Ryder Cup, and tells of the eight months Neiman spent painting the Medina Country Club clubhouse prior to his death this past June. The completion of the work necessitated the aid of assistants who positioned the enormous canvas as the 91-year-old artist painted from his wheel chair. The work will be sold at the Ryder Cup and an additional painting of a large golf ball will also be auctioned off for charity.
