Chicago Sun-Times Announces Stipends Awarded to SAIC Alumni
On October 22 the Chicago Sun-Times announced the recipients of $15,000-dollar stipends awarded by 3ARTS—an organization dedicated to Chicago’s women artists, artists of color, and artists with disabilities. Among the 10 honorees are SAIC alumni Miguel Aguilar (BFA 2000, MAT 2011) and Maria Vergara (MFA 2009). Aguilar received the award for his achievements in teaching arts. He is a professor of art history at SAIC and program coordinator at Yollocalli Arts Reach. Aguilar is also founder of Defiance Gallery and a successful graffiti artist. 3ARTS honored Vergara for excellence in visual arts. She is a past recipient of SAIC’s merit scholarship and has exhibited work locally and nationally.
