Candida Alvarez, the Chicago-based painter and SAIC Professor whose works have been exhibited nationwide, was recently profiled in Chicago magazine.
Her solo exhibition, Here, is currently on display at the Chicago Cultural Center, just blocks away from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where Alvarez has taught since 1998. Curated by Painting and Drawing department Chair Terry R. Myers, the show includes more than 60 works ranging from the 1980s to today. Here features Alvarez's signature vibrant colors and geometric abstractions—beginning in color-by-numbers books during her youth and flourishing thanks to a friendship with famed minimalist artist Sol LeWitt. Here runs through August 6.
