Artificial Life: Post-Apocalyptic Survival Gear from “News from Nowhere”
On August 15 Vice blog Motherboard showcased conceptual post-apocalyptic survival gear from the upcoming Sullivan Galleries exhibition News from Nowhere: Chicago Laboratory. Writer Brian Merchant focuses on the Shenu: Hydrolemic System, a network of artificial organs created by Japanese designer Kaz Yoneda of takram design engineering to minimize human water intake in resource-scarce environments. Merchant breaks down the technology piece by piece, highlighting nasal cavity inserts to inhibit water loss through exhalation, a urine concentrator, a renal dehydrator, and a heat irradiant neck collar. News from Nowhere runs September 21 through December 21.
