An Incubator for Innovation

PureWow made Chicago Makes Modern: How Creative Minds Changed Society the subject of its influential Chicagoland daily email sent to 35,000 subscribers on December 14.  The book, published by the University of Chicago Press and coedited by SAIC professor and Executive Director of Exhibitions and Exhibition Studies Mary Jane Jacob, surveys the city of Chicago and its continued history of modern innovation.  It includes a forward written by SAIC President Walter Massey and additional contributions from a roster of SAIC faculty and alumni. Timeout Chicago also featured Chicago Makes Modern on December 27. Writer Lauren Weinberg quotes Jacob and Baas in the book’s introduction, stating they wanted to understand why there is “a growing interest in 20th-century art, architecture and design.”
