Alumna’s Sculpture is CTA’s Most Valuable Art Work

On June 13 the Chicago Sun-Times spotlighted the massive stainless steel sculpture 24/7 by alumna Carla Arocha (BFA 1991) and Stephanie Schraenen, recently identified as the most valuable work of art owned by the Chicago Transit Authority. The one-ton structure hangs from the ceiling of the CTA’s Howard station. “Chicago art expert” and gallerist Monique Meloche (SAIC 1994) offers background on the sculpture in the article. Constant movement inside the station and reflections from a nearby window mean that there’s “always something activating” the work, Meloche says, “which is why they call it 24/7.”
