Alumna Pens a “Ballet in Book Form”

On June 6 Newcity published an interview by contributor Greg Baldino with SAIC alumna Audrey Niffenegger (BFA 1985), author of the recently released Raven Girl. The modern-day fairy tale was originally written as a ballet in collaboration with Random Dance founder and Royal Ballet choreographer Wayne McGregor, who is currently developing a stage production of the story. “His sensibility’s very cutting edge and dark, and so we're a good pair,” Niffenegger says. Asked to describe her classic fairy tale inspirations, Niffenegger explains she’s most interested in stories “on the fringe that are kind of strange.” Etchings from Raven Girl will be exhibited at Printworks from June 14 through August 17.
