Alumna Named Chief Strategy Officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield

On November 11 the White Coat Notes blog from the Boston Globe announced SAIC alumna Sarah Iselin’s (BFA 1993) new role as chief strategy officer of the Blue Cross Blue Shield. Prior to her appointment as president of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation in 2009, Iselin served as commissioner of the state Division of Health Care Finance and policy, “where she played a major role in implementation of the 2006 health care law that expanded health insurance coverage in Massachusetts.” Iselin also initiated health and safety programs for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, the state’s largest insurer and contributed to the “Roadmap to Coverage” initiative, which supported reports and debates that “laid the groundwork for passage of the 2006 law.” Her new responsibilities include oversight of the corporate citizenship group and business planning. Blue Cross Chief Executive Andrew Dreyfus confidently states Iselin will “promote our agenda on health care affordability,” adding, “she has such a deep understanding both of the broader health care environment and of the intersection of government regulation and market developments.”
