Alumna and Media Artist Profiled in Southsider magazine

On February 27 Southsider magazine profiled alumna and new media artist Valerie Fuchs (MFA 1998), currently exhibited in Luminosity at the Lexington Art League’s Loudon House. A faculty member at the Kentucky School of Art at Spalding University, Valerie uses digital cinematography to create large-scale works that explore, among a variety of existential themes, the tension between between a love of nature and a love of technology. “I’m always thinking about how much we don’t have a relationship with the land that we’re right in front of,” says Fuchs. “Like Wendell Berry says, you have to live in it—you have to have a long history. You have to have a name for that back field. You have to have an emotional relationship with it to care for it.” Luminosity runs through April 6.
