Alum Credits Influential SAIC Professor in New York Times Review

On October 3 the New York Times spotlighted Melt to Earth, a “tableau of 14 ecstatically colored metal sculptures” by SAIC alumnus Aaron Curry (BFA 2002), recently commissioned by New York City’s Lincoln Center. His sculptures display Curry’s “typical sampling-like sweep of allusions,” writes art critic Julie L. Belcove, an aesthetic trait he developed under SAIC faculty member and Chicago imagist Barbara Rossi. “She had this routine: Every week she wanted students to come in with something that had an impact on them,” Curry says. “It could be ‘Gilligan’s Island’ or some weird billboard. It resonated with me.” Melt to Earth is on display through January 6 around Josie Robertson Plaza on the Lincoln Center campus.
