Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence and Stalking
In accord with the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013, as well as Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibits discrimination based on sex, including but not limited, to sexual assault, SAIC adopts the following standard of conduct which applies to all members of the SAIC community, including students, faculty, administrators, staff, vendors, contractors, and visitors to our campus.
I. Statement of Policy
Our community expects that all interpersonal relationships and interactions—especially those of an intimate nature—be grounded in mutual respect, open communication, and clear consent.
To this end, Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and Stalking, are unacceptable and are not tolerated at SAIC. These terms are defined on the Definitions of Prohibited Conduct page. Retaliation, as defined on that page, is also prohibited.
SAIC encourages anyone who has been subjected to Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and/or Stalking to seek appropriate help and to report the incident promptly to the police and/or SAIC officials. SAIC has professional staff who will assist students, faculty, and staff members to get help, including immediate medical care, counseling and other essential services. Specific policies, methods for reporting, including confidential reporting, and resources are described below.
As a general matter, SAIC will take prompt action to investigate reports of Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and/or Stalking and, where appropriate, to impose sanctions. The applicable procedures will depend on whether the alleged offender is a student, faculty or staff member. Students, faculty and staff who violate this Policy may face discipline up to and including expulsion or termination. This is set out in detail on the Complaint Procedures page.
This policy is effective as of August 1, 2016 and replaces the previous policy.
