Academic Advising: Leave of Absence/Reinstatement
If you are currently on leave of absence, we hope that your plans include returning to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) to complete your degree. As you know, SAIC is a dynamic place where a lot can change in a short time.
In order to return to SAIC from an Administrative Leave of Absence, you must contact the office of Academic Advising and Student Success to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor and complete an Appeal for Reinstatement Form, which is reviewed by the Academic Review Board.
Please be aware the statute of limitations for returning from Leave of Absence is: for undergraduate students—five years since the date last attended, and for graduate students—one year since the date last attended. Also please note that the statute of limitations for completion of degree requirements includes the interim period spent on Leave of Absence.
If you seek to re-enroll after these time frames, you must submit a new application through the Office of Admissions. We would like to encourage you to return to SAIC to finish your degree requirements before either of your statute of limitations expires.
If returning to SAIC is not part of your plans, and you do not want us to contact you in the future, please contact us to request to be removed from our mailing list.
