The Joan Flasch Artists' Book Collection and Archives at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s John M. Flaxman Library will transform a space normally reserved for research and teaching into a meditation on human experience. In the reading room we will recreate the installation component of Yoko Ono’s 2013 project, Arising. In its original iteration, Arising invited women of all ages, across the world, to send Yoko Ono a photograph of their eyes and a written testament of harm they experienced solely for being a woman. This exhibition is ongoing and participatory. Please consider contributing a testament, and/or donating clothing for the installation.

This summer show is held in conjunction with an exhibition at the Chicago Poetry Foundation, Yoko Ono: Poetry, Painting, Music, Objects, Events, and Wish Trees, May 10 – August 22, 2019.
