Inclusivity in Chicago's Art Scene

Alum Angelique Power (MFA 1998), President of the Field Foundation of Illinois, is striving to end racism in the Chicago arts scene through Enrich Chicago, a coalition of nonprofits and foundations whose goal is racial equality. When the 2013 Americans for the Arts survey revealed that 86 percent of all executives at Chicago art agencies were white, it became clear to Power that something must be done. As she told Crain’s Chicago Business, “We immediately went to tactical solutions—how do we change this?” Power then cofounded Enrich Chicago in 2014, which is conducting a study to see how Alaana (African American, Latino, Asian, Arab and Native American) art groups are funded in the Chicago area and also hosts a workshop entitled Undoing Racism that all Enrich Chicago members must attend.
