SAIC
WHY SAIC?
Founded in 1866, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is one of the nation's most influential art and design schools. As a nationally and regionally accredited private art and design college, SAIC is annually ranked as one of America's leading institutes of graduate study in the visual arts. SAIC has welcomed students from every state in the United States and 48 nations, and is legendary for the extraordinary success of its alumni, including artists, designers, scholars, filmmakers, and writers, whose work is widely sought after by private collections and museums.

Notable for its diversity, SAIC's academic program and its supporting departments provide a broad and dynamic spectrum of courses in a curriculum committed to an interdisciplinary mode of study. SAIC's engaged student body and superb faculty of artists and scholars work in close proximity, sharing exceptional resources and establishing a forum for critiquing and refining technical abilities and conceptual concerns.

Given SAIC's close relationship to the Art Institute, the Art Institute of Chicago museum's collection is often used to teach the visual arts. SAIC's location in downtown Chicago gives students access to one of the world's greatest cities. SAIC has an extensive series of public programs, including those presented by the Gene Siskel Film Center, the Visiting Artist Program, the Video Data Bank, the Poetry Center, and galleries that exhibit work to a wide audience. We invite you to learn more about SAIC and why the education you'll receive is rare and, for the artist, irreplaceable.
"I took full advantage of the interdisciplinary aspect that SAIC provided. Taking classes in Painting and Drawing, Printmaking, Fiber and Material Studies, Photography, and Sculpture, along with many decent academic classes, allowed for a well-rounded education. It taught me the importance of not confining myself to one way of thinking or making, but to treat each concept as a basis for constituting an appropriate materialization of the idea."

-- Carson Fisk-Vittori, BFA, 2009, 2009 Fellowship Recipient.
