Undergraduate Experience: Importance of Critique—Dialogue and Assessment
Give Feedback. Take Feedback.
At SAIC you will be critiqued. With every studio class that you take, a critique component comes standard. Your work will be assessed by other students with respect to form, content, intent, and appropriateness of imagery, proficiency with materials and techniques, and overall effectiveness. And you will assess others' work on these same criteria. Every class is an open dialogue driving every student to take on the challenges and responsibilities that every artist, designer, and scholar encounters on their way to creating work. At SAIC, the critique is a fundamental component of the creative process, providing new ideas, possibilities, and directions that enable our community to sustain argument, rigor, experimentation, playfulness, invention, and mutual respect.
