Your Source for Materials on Campus:

SAIC’s Material Source is your partner in obtaining supplies for the making possibilities available at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Our inventory serves curricular and facility needs throughout the School’s many departments and our locations are embedded in or near these areas. We also provide convenience and introductory items to help you explore the variety of art-making processes our facilities support.

Each location primarily serves the departments and facilities in which they are located offering items catering to their specific needs. We also carry many items at multiple locations which are useful to the whole community. Most of our items have been chosen by faculty and staff to support your educational needs. *Information and pricing are updated at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters and are subject to change. All purchases are subject to the current local sales tax.

ARTICard is the only accepted payment method.

Hours listed are for regular Fall and Spring semesters and are subject to change. Summer and Winter hours will be posted at each location. We are generally closed all days classes are not in session.

The MacLean Vending Machine
The MacLean vending machine is on the eighth floor of the MacLean building, near the end of the main hallway.
It provides 24-hour access to Flash Drives, Memory Cards, CDs, DVDs, Prototype Boards, and other basic Electronics Components.

GENERAL POLICIES

Purchasing & Payment:

  • You must pay in full before any items are removed from the SAIC Material Source location. 
    • Items not stored in Material Source locations should be picked up as soon as possible.
  • SAIC Material Source cannot assist in the transport or storage of any purchased items.

Returns & Exchanges:
Returns and Exchanges are welcome and require the following:

  • Your original receipts. 
    • These are an itemized receipt from our point of sale system and an ARTICard receipt.
  • Your ARTICard.
  • The item you are returning.
    • The item/s must be unopened, unused, and otherwise in the same condition purchased.
  • Items can only be returned at the location they were purchased.
  • Non-returnable items include personal protective equipment, items cut after purchase, certain cut to size items.
  • Returns may take time, please be patient.

Availability & Restocking:

  •  All regular sale items will be restocked in the most efficient and timely manner possible.
    • Please email saicmaterials@saic.edu us if an item you need is not available or if you are planning on making a large purchase.
    • We attempt to maintain sufficient stock levels in all locations, though there can be delays. We will do our best to communicate re-stocking times.
  • We cannot assist in ordering or delivering items that we do not stock.
