John M. Flaxman Library: News & Events
Hi! Welcome back!
We here at the Flaxman Library are excited for the fall semester to start. We’ve answered some FAQs that might be helpful for your fall semester.
Reserves? What's that?
Reserves are books and materials that your instructor has asked the library to set aside for their courses. The materials are library use only and can be checked out for 3 hours at a time. You can use the scanners and/or copiers located within the library to make a PDF or a physical copy.
To find books your faculty put on reserve for your class please use this link here.
What is I-Share?
I-Share is an Interlibrary Loan network of over 80 academic libraries in Illinois. You can visit these libraries or have items sent to Flaxman for pick-up. Shipping takes 3-5 business days. To request items, sign in with your library account.
Special Collections sounds cool. Tell me more!
The Flaxman Library Special Collections house an array of archives, rare films, artists’ publications and other unique materials. Do you want to see that original copy of the Ed Ruscha book you talked about in class? Or maybe you want to check out one of the library’s riot grrrl zines? or maybe you want to check out something by an SAIC Alum like The body, Manifold Publication by Amina Ross. Whatever your needs, stop by the Special Collections reading Room (Sharp 508) or make an appointment to spend time with some truly inspiring materials.
It's always important to give credit where credit is due when doing research. For help with citations you can check out this Research Guide that the librarians have put together. Still confused? Feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or to make an IRL appointment.
