The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) writing program's distinguished faculty have expertise in playwriting, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Tutorials anchor the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Writing curriculum, and each semester students choose one or two members from the SAIC graduate faculty at large to act as stewards of their development. For more than a decade this anchor has freed students and faculty to innovate pedagogically in the workshop and seminar curricular frameworks. It also allows students to pursue elective work in any area of SAIC.

Situated within an acclaimed school of fine art and design, students have the opportunity to enhance their practice with interdisciplinary study. Writing students are encouraged to develop a plan of study and work with advisors from any area of the school—be it performance, film, sculpture, or art history—that best supports and promotes their continued growth.
