Low-Residency Master of Fine Arts: Visiting Artists Series
Andrea Ray has a cross-disciplinary artistic practice. Focusing on the possibility of collapsing time through affective contact between history and people, Ray creates artworks that embody both literary and discursive approaches to the subjects of attachment and community, attempting to repair an alienated subjectivity through what she terms "expanded affinities." Ray's work has been exhibited at Wesleyan University's Zilkha Gallery, Mass MoCA, SculptureCenter, Apex Art, P.S.1 Clocktower Gallery, White Columns, and Wanås Foundation. Awards include Art Matters and NYFA Fellowships. Ray's work has been included in Artforum, Bomb magazine, zingmagazine, the New York Times, and Art News.
Ray is a PhD in Fine Arts fellow at the Malmö Art Academy. She completed the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program, received an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, and earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design.
