The Launch for Graduate Mentorship Program

Graduate Division is launching a mentorship program for the upcoming academic year, starting fall semester of 2017. The mentorship program will pair a second-year graduate student with a first-year graduate student to help the new students to transition into the SAIC community. The students say that the initiative was brought out “in response to feedback from grads over the past two years.”

The program will build connections among students within SAIC’s supportive and inclusive community. The second-year students, the mentors, will help introduce and direct the new grads to various resources on campus, and around Chicago.

The Graduate Division plans to organize social-outings such as Chicago neighborhood tours and gallery visits throughout the upcoming academic year for all mentors and mentees to participate.

The office will facilitate mentor-mentee pairings, yet let the mentors take initiative and be creative with proceeding the mentorship.

Information session about this program will be held on Wednesday, April 12, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm in MacLean 707 — snacks and coffee will be provided. Soon-to-be second-year students who are interested in becoming mentors for this inaugural program can sign up for the mentorship program here.
