Letterpress printing as a commercial enterprise was well on its way to becoming almost completely obsolete by the 1980s. Fast forward, and today more design and arts programs than ever are setting up letterpress print shops. Society of Typographic Arts and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago are hosting a panel discussion about the impact of letterpress on art and design, in conjunction with Pressing On: The Letterpress Film, A Bayonet Media Film, and Graphic Means, A History of Graphic Design Production, Briar Levit, Director/Producer, showing at the Music Box Theater September 19.
