Philip Burton divides his time between teaching and practicing graphic design. He started his teaching career at the University of Houston, and has also taught at Rice University School of Architecture, Yale University School of Art, and is now a Professor of Design in the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Between 1975 and 1996, he was the coordinator and one of the core faculty of a five-week summer design workshop in Brissago, Switzerland, sponsored by Yale University. Since 1992 he has been a consultant in corporate design for Morningstar, Inc., a global financial investment research company. In 2003 he was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Graphic Arts.
