Karen Zimmerman is an Associate Professor in the School of Art at the University of Arizona in Tucson where she teaches courses in design. Karen is interested in exploring the relationship of text and image through her work. She has been a recipient of an Arizona Project Grant by the Arizona Commission of the Arts. Her work has been in The Education of a Graphic Designer, Teaching Motion Design, The Education of an 'E' Designer, Inform, American Institute of Graphic Arts, The Type Director's Club, Sigraph, and ZED. She received her MFA in Visual Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University.
A professor of Visual Communications at the University of Arizona, Phil Zimmermann has been making and publishing artists' books for the last 35 years. His offset books are known for innovative structures that follow content, and he is a well-known figure in the artists' book field. Before coming to Arizona, he taught for 24 years in the design area at SUNY Purchase's School of Art+Design. His recent work deals with Arizona-Mexico border issues. His work is in most major collections of artists' books and he has received a National Endowment for the Arts Individual Fellowship and two New York Foundation of the Arts fellowships among many other awards.
