Gary Cannone is an artist and writer living in Los Angeles. Born in Chicago in 1964, he played in the early 1980s punk band “The Leeches” and studied art at University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Chicago. He has had solo exhibitions and screenings in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York and has participated in group exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe. His primarily text-based artwork is concerned with communication, exchange, and interpretation and has taken the form of lists, public signage, photography, audio, performance, film screenings, books, and video. He recently completed a book of short non-fiction pieces entitled Hiya, Gary! and is working on a new book entitled Moby Dick.
