Graduate Lecture Series: Molly Colleen O'Connell

Thursday, March 16, 12:15 p.m.
Columbus Building, 280 S. Columbus Dr., room 317

Molly Colleen O'Connell is an interdisciplinary artist hailing from Florida. In 2008, she received her BFA in printmaking from Maryland Institute College of Art. She was a member of the Closed Caption Comics collective, a co-founder of Open Space Gallery in Baltimore and has curated multiple exhibitions, screenings and publications.

Her work's primary focus is the tension between humor and fear; the fluid barrier between laughing and discomfort. She believes in the power of humor to combat an increasingly hostile world.

She uses the spirit of collage to create absurd forms. Through drawing, cut up text, and video, she mixes truth and fiction to create a context of perverted feminist hallucinations.
