Maura O'Brien is a second year MFA candidate in the Painting and Drawing department at SAIC. Her work deals with the intimacies of nature as they occur through memory and abstraction. She is intensely interested in the idea that ordinary, mundane natural phenomena can impact our lives in extraordinary ways. She grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she spent summers leading canoeing trips in Canadian wilderness areas and the Boundary Waters. She received her BA in Art & Archaeology from Princeton University, with a certificate in Environmental Studies.
