Cassandra Davis: On Developing Relics for the Existential/Evangelical

Thursday, September 15, 12:00 p.m.
Sharp Building, 37 S. Wabash Ave., Room 903

Cassandra Davis will speak on work made during her first year of graduate school, touching on interdisciplinary works rooted in a materially driven practice. The discussion will include her video and photographic project,"Baptism," the development of her Jacquard weaving practice in conversation with image making and sculpture, and performance explorations that embody Davis' object based works within a temporal and experiential space.

Davis' work arrives at intersections between her photographic discipline and investigation of materiality, Pentecostal upbringing and explorations of queer identity. Themes of the erotic, spiritual ecstasy and transformation emerge from an interdisciplinary practice that engages photography, video, performance and installation.
