One of the leading voices in the field of Transgender Studies, Susan Stryker, will give an account of its emergence as a recognizable field of academic inquiry since the 1990s. Both a scholar and a filmmaker, Stryker will discuss the broader history of interdisciplinary and activist work on gender variance, her own contributions to the field of Transgender Studies, and its most current developments. Admission is free and open to the general public.
About Susan Stryker, Ph.D.
Susan Stryker PhD is Director of the Institute for LGBT Studies and Associate Professor of Gender and Women's Studies at the University of Arizona. She won an Emmy for her first film, Screaming Queens: The Riot at Compton's Cafeteria, and has written widely on transgender and queer topics over the past 20 years, including the books Transgender History and the award-winning Transgender Studies Reader. She is founding co-editor of TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly.
