Timed out: Art and the Transnational Caribbean (Manchester University Press, 2012) explores the interconnections between the Caribbean, Europe, and North America, redrawing the map of centre and periphery in modern and contemporary art. It shows how artists from this diverse geography have faced charges of belatedness and provincialism which are integral to the prevailing time-space logic of art history. Reflecting on this new book, Dr. Leon Wainwright (Art History, The Open University, UK) will elucidate the implications of the Caribbean in a changing politics of temporality and for understanding art and Americocentrism.
