The Department of Art Education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) develops teachers as critical citizens, creators, and community activists. As an undergraduate student, you will study the concepts of art education and social justice, public pedagogy, and urban literacies through the lens of contemporary art and cultural production.
Some of our distinguishing features include:
- We are one of the few art education programs in the nation whose Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) confers eligibility to teach art grades K–12 in public schools.
- We are deeply committed to social justice and critical pedagogy, graduating artists and teachers who are informed and engaged citizens, creators, and community activists.
- We are located in a vibrant, diverse city offering a wealth of opportunities to study art education and social justice in real-world settings.
