The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) graduate degree program within the Department of Art Education offers two degree options: the Master of Arts (MA) in Art Education and the Master of Arts in Teaching. Both programs emphasize the following values:

Although the graduate Art Education programs share common values, they differ in focus, pedagogy, and content. The MA in Art Education positions students to work within the larger territory of arts and design education within society, as artists, designers, educators, and cultural workers. Program curriculum focuses on socially engaged art and design practices, museum education, cultural programming, exhibition and curriculum design, learning and teaching, audience advocacy, and participatory design activism within a variety of traditional and informal intersections.

The MA in Teaching focuses on K–12 teaching certification in art education and urban literacies.
