In this lecture as part of his final tenure review at SAIC, Associate Professor in Designed Objects Tim Parsons addresses emergent themes in object design through contemporary examples and personal projects. The 45-minute lecture will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A.
In addition to teaching at SAIC Tim Parsons is a designer and design writer. His book Thinking: Objects—Contemporary Approaches to Product Design was published in 2009 by AVA Academia and is on reading lists of universities worldwide. In collaboration with Jessica Charlesworth he has shown two installations at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and exhibited projects in London, New York, and Charleston, SC. At Expo Chicago 2012 he initiated and presented 10 panel discussions on the intersection of art and design practice and co-curated an exhibit of designed objects from Chicago galleries. He is a member of the nomination panel for the Designer of the Year Awards, hosted by the Design Museum in London and manages the design writing blog objectthinking.com
